ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team opened competition at the NCAA Division II Championships on Thursday from Grand Valley State University.
Cheyenne Williamson competed in the first four events in the heptathlon on Thursday. The junior currently leads with 3592 points. She won three of four events, taking first place in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, and 200-meter dash, while also adding a sixth-place finish in the shot put. Later in the day, the Essexville, Mich., native took fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.15 meters to earn All-American status.
CarLee Stimpfel ran to a fifth-place finish in the men's 10,000-meter run with a time of 29:11.09, just missing the school record. Also in the men's 10k, Dayton Brown was 17th with a time of 30:30.44.
Arianna Wegienka finished 17th in the women's 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:44.95.
In the women's 400-meter dash prelims, Alona Olshevska was 11th in 55.05 seconds.
Day two of the NCAA Championships will open with the conclusion of the women's heptathlon Friday morning in Allendale.
