SVSU women 2nd, men 4th at GLIAC Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University cross country teams hosted the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at the SVSU home course. The Cardinals finished second as a team on the women's side with 63 points, while the men were fourth with 102 points. 

SVSU was led by CarLee Stimpfel in the men's 8k race. The senior posted a third-place finish individually with a time of 24:41.9. Behind him, Seth Schafer finished in 24th place with a time of 26:37.0. Nicholas Bozarth was right behind Schafer in 25th place in 26:38.2. Thomas Hufton was the next Cardinal finisher in 26:45.4, good for 29th place. Completing the scoring for SVSU was Carter Stoner in 38th place with a time of 27:02.1. 

Stimpfel earned First Team All-GLIAC honors following the race, while Schafer collected Second Team All-GLIAC honors.

In the women's 6k race, Arianna Wegienka finished in ninth place with a time of 22:57.7, earning First Team All-GLIAC honors. Alexa Keiser and Maddie Isola finished in 12th and 13th place with times of 23:05.5 and 23:06.9, earning Second Team All-GLIAC honors. Lauren Buckner placed 15th individually with a time of 23:18.3 to land on the Second Team. Jenna Picard closed the scoring for SVSU in 23rd place with a time of 23:41.5, she also earned a Second Team All-Conference award. 

The Cardinals will prepare for the NCAA DII Midwest Regional Meet on Nov. 6 at Angel Mounds in Evansville, Indiana.
