GLIAC -- Grand Valley State captured both the men's and women's titles on Saturday afternoon at the 2021 GLIAC Cross Country Championships in University Center, Mich. on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University.

Recent rainy weather, including off and on showers throughout the morning, made for a wet and muddy course.

The Lakers men's team totaled 25 points while the women posted a perfect score of 15 points, claiming the top five spots individually.

GVSU's Isaac Harding navigated the challenging 8K course in 24:35.6 while Hannah Becker finished first in the women's 6K race with a time of 22:04.3. Both Harding and Becker were named GLIAC Runner of the Year following the event.

Grand Valley's Caleb Futter, who placed sixth in the men's race, and Taryn Chapko, who finished third, earned GLIAC Freshman of the Year honors.

Saginaw Valley State University

The course is conveniently located at the entrance of SVSU’s campus right off M84, with the start and finish in close proximity. The women’s championship 6K race consists of a mostly non-repeating course, the only repeating portion being an interior kilometer loop. The men’s championship 8K race consists of the same course, but with a second pass through the east loop as well. Miles will be marked with signs for each gender and large paint markings every kilometer for each gender (red for women, white for men).
