NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Saginaw Valley State University Cross Country teams earned national team and individual academic honors, as announced Thursday (Feb. 14) by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The SVSU Women's Cross Country team made the national list, earning a 3.48 GPA and finishing fifth at the 2018 Midwest Regional Championships. The Cardinal Men, who finished second at the regional championships, earned a 3.28 GPA and earned the national honor as well. The Men's squad would advance to the national championships, posting a sixth place showing. Tom Goforth, CarLee Simpfel and Allison Dorr (individual) all earned all-american plaudits at the meet for Saginaw Valley.
There were nine student-athletes who were named to the list as well, qualifying after compiling at least a 3.25 GPA and finishing among the top 30 percent of eligible runners at the regional championships or the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships meet.
