NEW ORLEANS, La. - Both Saginaw Valley State University cross country programs, along with four individual student-athletes, were honored today (Feb. 12) by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as earning Scholar All-Academic status.

The women's cross country team posted a 3.62 GPA for the 2014 season and had three individuals earn the distinction of being named USTFCCCA Scholar All-Academic.

The men's squad had an overall GPA of 3.11 and had one recipient of the honor.

The Scholar Teams of the Year were among 128 women's teams and 93 men's teams that earned All-Academic Team honors for the 2013 season. Programs must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.00 or greater and scored at an NCAA Division II regional meet to qualify for the award.

In total 131 unique programs were recognized, including 90 programs that had both their women's and men's teams earn the honor. Nine GLIAC men's teams earned Scholar All-American honors form the USTFCCCA.

Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.25 or greater and must have finished among the top 30 percent of total eligible runners at his or her regional championship (total Division II teams in the region multiplied by seven runners per team) or in the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.

The 208 men were representative of 97 institutions and 21 conferences.
