Lacrosse Falls to Davenport

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's lacrosse team fell to Davenport 23-5 Friday afternoon on senior day. The Cardinals (0-12, 0-7 GLIAC) took an early 2-0 lead over the Panthers (9-7, 3-5 GLIAC) in the opening quarter, but couldn't keep pace with DU the rest of the contest.

Gabby Parker tallied her fourth hat trick of the season with three goals on five shots, all on goal, in the contest. Lainey Lasky compiled two points with a goal and an assist along with a ground ball and a draw control. Annelle Dykema was the other SVSU goal scorer with a score to go along with three ground balls in the losing effort. Solana Kelly and Mikaila Stone (L, 0-12) led the Cardinals with four ground balls. Sarah Veale had a game-high six draw controls.

Parker got things going for Saginaw Valley early with a goal in the opening minute of the game. The score gave SVSU its first lead in GLIAC play this season. Dykema doubled up the advantage less than two minutes later with her goal at the 12:44 mark of the first quarter. The Panthers then scored six-straight goals to flip the edge to their side, 6-2, with just under five minutes left in the opening 15-minute frame. Parker then tallied her second score at 2:51 with a man-up goal to move within three of Davenport.

The Panthers scored eight more to widen the gap to 14-3 before Lasky netted the final goal of the half with just 78 seconds before halftime. Parker completes her hat trick with 6:23 remaining in regulation off an assist from Lasky (her second point of the game).

Stone made eight saves between the pipes for the Cardinals. SVSU was just edged out by the Panthers in draw controls, 16-13.
