Cardinals Stumble at Northern Michigan

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's lacrosse team suffered a 20-0 defeat at Northern Michigan on Thursday. The Cardinals (0-11, 0-6 GLIAC) couldn't get the offense going against a stout Wildcat (10-7, 4-4 GLIAC) defense that held SVSU to just seven total shots with two on goal.

Lainey Lasky registered two shots, one on goal, while Annelle Dykema generated another scoring opportunity for the Cardinals.

Dykema recorded her shot on goal at the 6:09 mark of the first quarter when SVSU was trailing 4-0, but her chance was saved by NMU goalkeeper Lauren Esposito. The Wildcats finished the first with a 6-0 lead.

Lasky watched her first shot bounce off the post in the second quarter as Saginaw Valley State continued to try and get on the board through the first 30 minutes of play. Northern Michigan held a 12-0 lead at the break.

Laskey's shot on frame happened at the 12:29 mark of the final quarter, where it was saved by NMU, and the Cardinals wouldn't register another shot on target through regulation.

Mikaila Stone (L, 0-11) made 15 saves for the Cardinals. Lasky finished with four draw controls and a ground ball to go with her two shots. Dykema, newcomer Olivia Lathrop, and Sarah Veale caused a turnover. Veale added two draw controls and four ground balls to her totals.
