GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University lacrosse team faced Davenport in the second road game of their trip for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest. The Cardinals (0-9, 0-4 GLIAC) fell 22-6 to the Panthers (6-5, 1-3 GLIAC).
Gabby Parker scored her second-straight hat trick and third of the season with her four goals. She scored on all of her shot attempts. Annelle Dykema scored a goal, along with a ground ball. Sarah Veale tallied her eighth goal of the season. Veale recorded four ground balls and three draw controls, which caused a turnover in the afternoon. Lainey Lasky had her fifth assist in leading the team in that category. She added two draw controls and a ground ball. Mikaila Stone (L, 0-9) made seven saves between the pipes for SVSU.
Davenport jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first six minutes of play before Dykema scored off a free-position attempt at 7:48 of the first quarter. DU added two more before Parker scored her first goal in a man-up situation at 2:18 of the quarter to snip the lead to 5-2. Two more goals from the Panthers put the score at 7-2 at the end of the opening period.
Veale added her goal at 11:44 of the second quarter to close the gap to six goals, 9-3. It was the only goal of the quarter for SVSU as the score stood at 13-3 when the teams entered the locker room at the half.
Parker scored her second to close the third quarter in another man-up opportunity with 2:37 left in the quarter. She added two more goals, the first completing her hat trick to start the fourth and give the Cardinals their sixth goal.
UP NEXT: SVSU continues the four-game road trip with a trip to Marquette, Michigan, to face Northern Michigan on Friday, April 18. The game with the Wildcats will begin at 5:00 p.m.
