Lacrosse Falls to Lewis in Weather Delayed Contest

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University lacrosse team fell 24-2 to Lewis in a game that was delayed for two hours due to lightning at the start of the second quarter. The delay extended the game to a total of three hours and 29 minutes for the longest lacrosse game in program history.

Annelle Dykema scored her second goal in as many games for her fourth all season. She also pulled in a ground ball and was the only scorer for the Cardinals (0-7) in the first half of play. Sarah Veale scored her seventh goal of the season with just five seconds left in regulation. Veale added a draw control and led with two shots on goal along with Gabby Parker. Mikaila Stone (L, 0-7) made eight saves and also had a team-high eight ground balls. Dorrie June scooped up five ground balls, while Kendall Szlachta totaled three. Lainey Lasky and Sophia Ried led SVSU with two draw controls.

The Flyers (4-5) scored the game's first five goals, with Heidi Sweeney netting two of those before Dykema put the Cardinals on the board for a 5-1 score at the 7:57 mark of the first quarter. Lewis held a 10-1 lead as the clock hit zero at the end of the first quarter, and the lightning touched down and delayed the game for 2:04.

The Flyers quickly scored out of the break to go up 11-1 and didn't take their foot off the pedal until they held an 18-1 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Veale capitalized on her second scoring opportunity with five seconds left to tally the second point for SVSU.
