UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's lacrosse fell 18-3 to Concordia-St. Paul on Friday afternoon in the team's first-ever Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest. The Cardinals (0-5, 0-1 GLIAC) scored all three goals in the fourth quarter in the losing effort.
Mikaila Stone (L, 0-5) made a career-high 15 saves in goal for SVSU. She added a team-high eight ground balls to her totals as well.
Gabby Parker scored her 10th goal of the season with two marks in the fourth quarter. She also moved her season point total to 11. She led the Cardinals with four shots on goal in the game and tallied five ground balls.
Sarah Veale scored her sixth goal of her career while also collecting two draw controls. Lainey Lasky tallied an assist and three draw controls.
The Golden Bears (5-4, 1-0 GLIAC) took a 5-0 lead after the first 15 minutes of play. Stone kept the score close through the first period as she made four of her saves in the opening quarter.
Stone made seven saves in the second period, but SVSU struggled to get the offense going in the first half. The Cardinals had three shots on goal through the opening half of play, but Katie Colleran made the saves for CSP and the Bears took an 11-0 advantage into the half.
Lasky, Annelle Dykema, and Parker each recorded a shot on goal, but couldn't halt the shutout in the third period. Concordia-St. Paul added five more scores to widen the gap to 16 as the teams headed into the final quarter.
Parker put the Cardinals on the board with her first goal at 11:46 of the fourth quarter and prevented the shutout with her ninth score of the season. She added another with just under 6:30 left in the game off an assist from Lasky with a man-up. Veale added the third goal to the board in the closing minute for her sixth goal of the season.
