TIFFIN, OHIO – The Saginaw Valley State University women's lacrosse team suffered a 21-5 loss on the road against Tiffin on Monday afternoon. The Cardinals (0-2) tied the score at two goals apiece in the opening 10 minutes of the first quarter but couldn't keep pace with the Dragons (2-2) in the losing effort.
Gabby Parker led the way for SVSU with a goal and an assist in the contest. Lainey Lasky and Sarah Veale added a goal to the cause for their second score of the season.
Sarah Graziano and Aleena Edwards netted the first two goals of the game (their first scores of the season). Graziano led the team with six ground balls. Edwards tallied four ground balls along with Mikaila Stone (L, 0-2).
Edwards, Veale, and Sophia Ried each were credited with two caused turnovers. Annelle Dykema led the Cardinals with two draw controls.
Graziano scored a man-up goal off an assist by Parker at the 11:21 mark tied the game at one goal early in the first quarter. Tiffin added a goal three minutes later to move back ahead 2-1 before Edwards scored a man-up goal at 5:59 to tie things back up, 2-2. The Dragons then scored five straight goals to end the first quarter with a 7-2 advantage.
Parker trimmed the deficit to 11-3 with her goal at 8:02 in the second period. Tiffin added two more scores in the half to take a 10-point lead into the break.
The final two goals for the Cardinals came in the fourth quarter when Veale and Lasky scored back-to-back man-up goals.
UP NEXT: The SVSU women's lacrosse team will head to Painesville, Ohio this Thursday, March 6 for a game against Lake Erie that was originally scheduled to be the first game of the season back on February 14 but was postponed due to weather. The opening draw for the matchup against the Storm is slated for 7:00 p.m. (ET).
