ALLENDALE, Mich. – Cheyenne Williamson won her seventh-career national title, claiming the 2022 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Heptathlon National Championship, closing out the event on Friday in Allendale, Mich.

The Essexville, Mich., native entered the final day of the heptathlon with more than a 300-point advantage in the standings after four events on Thursday. Williamson finished with a total of 5757 points, breaking her own SVSU record and moving into seventh place on the NCAA DII all-time list for the heptathlon.

"I am definitely happy with how this event went," Williamson said. "I had a really good first day and then just rallied it together for the second day. This season has been a little different for me, but this championship ranks up there. It's a big accomplishment."

On Friday, Williamson finished third in the long jump with a leap of 5.65m and was ninth in the javelin throw with a toss of 34.48m. She closed out the national title with a time of 2:17.40 in the 800-meter run, good enough for fourth in the event.

Williamson is now a four-time NCAA DII Multi Event National Champion (2021 and 2022 Indoor Pentathlon, 2021 and 2022 Outdoor Heptathlon). She also owns national titles in the 2021 indoor long jump, 2021 indoor 60-meter hurdles, and the 2021 outdoor 4x400 relay. The outdoor heptathlon title for Williamson on Friday is the third consecutive for SVSU including the 2019 championship for Lauren Huebner (2020 national meet was canceled due to COVID-19).

Williamson is not done at the 2022 Outdoor championships yet, as she took 11th in the preliminary round of the 100-meter hurdles in 13.98 seconds on Friday night. She will compete in the high jump final at 2:05 pm Saturday.

Alona Olshevska competed for the Cardinals in the preliminary round of the 200-meter dash on Friday evening as well for SVSU, finishing 17th with a time of 24.10 seconds.
