Cross Country Men Finish 4th, Women 2nd at Northwood

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University cross country team began 2024 at the Northwood Invitational on Saturday morning. The Cardinal men raced first and finished the 6K race in fourth with a total of 101 points. The women's team followed with a second-place finish in the 5K jaunt after a team total of 51 points.

The men's team had five student-athletes finish in the top 25, and seven in the top 30 in the race. Andy Foshag led the way for the men with a time of 19 minutes, 12.2 seconds for 13th in the individual results. Isaac Zammit placed 20th with a time of 19:23.5. Zammit was followed by Braylon Petty in 22nd with a finish of 19:25.9. Wyatt Miller and Kenny Lewis placed 24 and 25 with times of 19:29.4 and 19:32.0 respectively. Bryce Husen and Shane Siterlet rounded out the top seven finishes. Husen recorded a PR after placing 27th in 19:33.3. Siterlet was 30th with a finish of 19:37.8. Ten SVSU men's cross country freshmen made their collegiate debut including Foshag, Zammit, Petty, Miller, and Lewis.

Jenna Picard led the women's team with a top-10 finish after placing ninth after setting a new PR with a time of 18:54.5. The women's team recorded two athletes in the top 10 and eight in the top 25. Alexis Tracy also recorded a PR to place 10th with a finish at 19:01.5. Karissa Picard finished one place outside the top 10 with a finish of 19:04.1, a PR for her. Jenna Sweeney was 12th after crossing the finish line at 19:04.5. Lili Lehnst placed 14th at 19:09.9, which was the fifth scoring time for the Cardinal women. Anastee Davie (19:28.2), Kinsie Jacques (19:39.8), and Gracie Youngblood (19:48.6) were the final three racers in the top 25 with finishes of 21, 23, and 25. Sweeney, Lehnst, Davis, Jacques, and Youngblood were the five freshmen who made their debut for the Cardinal women.

The SVSU cross country team will travel to Michigan State next Friday, September 13, to compete in the Auto-Owners Invitational in East Lansing.
