MUSKEGON, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University cross country teams competed at the Jayhawk Invitational at Muskegon Community College on Saturday afternoon. The men's team finished third in the team standings with 133 points.
Caleb Smith was the top finisher for the SVSU men with a time of 26:49 to finish in 35th. Shane Siterlet was 41st after clocking in at 27:03. David Ferguson wasn't far behind in 45th as he finished the race in 27:12. John Buck was 10 seconds behind to finish 49th with an official time of 27:22. Alex Grifka had a time of 27:27 to finish 51st while Bryce Husen was 53rd with a time of 27:27. Landon Mars placed 55th to finish off the top seven spots for the Cardinals after a finish of 27:30.
Eric Niestroy (56th, 27:34), Bryce Brown (58th, 27:36), Zach deBeauclair (61st, 27:39), Ashton Sheline (65th, 27:43), Cameron Sherrill (91st, 28:33), and Wyatt Dean (97th, 28:45) also raced for the SVSU men's team.
The women's team had four student-athletes compete in the women's 5k race. Anna Alexander led the Cardinals with a finishing time of 19:30 to place 22nd individually. Sophia Potter crossed the finish line in 19:56 for 28th place. Aubree Sedore was 33rd with a time of 20:12. Tara Szuper was the final women's runner and placed 44th with a time of 20:43.
The SVSU cross country teams will make the trip to Houghton, Michigan for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships next Saturday, October 21.
