Cardinals named USTFCCCA  Academic All-American Teams

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has honored both individuals and teams that stood out both academically and athletically during the 2021 season.

The Saginaw Valley State University cross country teams had a number of honors. Both the men's and women's teams were named All-Academic teams for their success in the classroom. The men finished with a GPA of 3.09, while the women had a team GPA of 3.44. Overall 98 different men's programs and 111 women's programs earned the All-Academic team honor. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period and compile a team score at their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.

Individuals on both the SVSU men's and women's teams earned honors as well. CarLee Stimpfel, Thomas Hufton, and Nicholas Bozarth were among the 275 men in NCAA Division II who were named All-Academic Athletes. On the women's side, five Cardinals were named All-Academic Athletes. Maddie Isola, Alexa Keiser, Lauren Buckner, Jenna Picard, and Arianna Wegienka were five of the 357 women named All-Academic for their efforts during the 2021 season.

In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-30 percent of their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.
