Cardinal cross country posts solid showing at MSU Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University cross country teams traveled to Michigan State University for the Auto Owners Spartan Invitational on Friday. The Cardinal men finished sixth in the team standings with a score of 195, while the women finished seventh with a score of 230. 

Senior CarLee Stimpfel led the men with a fourth-place overall finish, covering the 8k course distance in 24:30.9. Behind him, Seth Schafer finished 46th overall with a time of 26:24.3. Carson Hersch was the next Cardinal to cross the line with a time 26:36.6, finishing 53rd. Nick Mcardle and Eric Niestroy closed the scoring for SVSU. Mcardle finished in 60th place with a time of 26:45.6, while Niestroy finished in 83rd place with a time of 27:05.6. 

On the women's side, Alexa Keiser led SVSU in the 6k race. Keiser finished in 38th place with a time of 23:09.1. Finishing right behind in 40th place was Lauren Buckner with a time of 23:09.5. Jenna Picard finished in 57th place with a time of 23:36.8, while Arianna Wegienka finished in 69th place at 23:43.7. Kailee Sandoval would close the scoring for the Cardinals with an 84th place finish and a time of 24:09.7.

The Cardinals will be back in action when they host the Inaugural Red October meet on Oct. 2 on the SVSU campus.
