Men's Cross Country Finishes 2nd, Women Finish 4th at GLIAC Championships

MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Men and Women's Cross Country teams competed at the 2017 GLIAC Championships held by Northern Michigan University Saturday Morning. The men's team finished second over the 11 teams participating, while the women took fifth over the 12 in their respective category. 

Men's Race
Finish: 2nd out of 11 teams
Points: 76 

The Saginaw Valley State Men's Cross Country team competed well in the GLIAC Championships this weekend, taking second place overall with a total of 76 points. Cardinals fell behind conference rival #3Grand Valley State by a total of 50 points. 

The team was lead by junior Parker Eisengruber who posted a 25:58.3 time, placing 12th overall. Closely following behind him was Timmy Kimball placing 13th with a 26:04.8 time. 

Rounding out the top 25 finishes was Clyde Anderson (18th), Austen Mandernach (19th) and Branden Bohling (20th). 

All of the top twenty five runners for SVSU also earned Men's Second Team All-GLIAC accolades. 

Other SVSU finishes were Kavi Kulkarni (29th), Tellis Donajkowski (42nd), Thomas Kean (57th) and Rob Roest (64th). 

Women's Race: 
Finish: 4th out of 12 
Points: 103

The Lady Cards posted a fourth place finish at the GLIAC conference championship on Saturday. The team posted three top 25 finishes and 103 points overall. 

Top runner for SVSU was freshman Maggie Pawelczyk with a 22:51.6 time and a 13th place finish. Morgan Fuerst followed a few runners behind with a 17th place finish, running a 22:57.2. Both runners received Second Team All-Conference accolades.

Rounding out the Cardinal team finishing scores were Sydney Kreger (26th) running a 23:44.8, Alicia Tomlin (27th), 23:46.5 and Darby Meinecke with a 24:11.5, finishing 31st. 

Sophia Bradley, Rebecca Estep, Isabella Garcia, Carissa Martin and Jenna Keiser also competed in the race and had top 60 finishes. 

Up Next...

The teams will now await their fate for the NCAA DII Regional Race held in Cedarville, Ohio on Nov. 5th. Races are set to begin at 10 a.m.
