EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Saginaw Valley State University cross country teams competed Saturday (Nov. 7) in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships. The event was held at the Angel Mounds and hosted by the University of Southern Indiana and the Evansville Sports Corporation.

The men's team posted a seventh place finish in the championships, finishing with 213 points. The Cardinals finished tied with Bellarmine in points, as both teams finished just a single point behind Walsh University. Grand Valley State won the event with a team total of 43 points. The top five teams advanced on to the national championships.

Joey Southgate led the charge for the Cardinals, finishing in 11th place overall with a time of 31:15.9 in the 10K event. Teammate Tom Goforth was the next finisher, crossing the line in 23rd place with a mark of 31:39.4. Those finishes earned both runners All-Midwest Regional honors. 

Nate Frasier (32:39.4, 57th), Clyde Anderson (32:40.4, 59th) and Codey Cook (32:47.9, 63rd) rounded out the scoring for Saginaw Valley. 

It was the best finish for the men in the regional event since 2009.

The women ran to a 13th place finish in the championships, posting a total score of 373. GVSU won the women's event with a total of 45 points, followed closely behind by Hillsdale with a mark of 63 points.

Allison Dorr was the top finisher for the women, posting a 43rd place finish with a time of 22:15.3 in the 6K event.  

Brittany Johnson added a 51st place finish with a mark of 22:24.4 and Christina Micale finished 55th with a time of 22:30.0.

The regional championships round out the 2015 season for the Cardinals, as most of the student-athletes will continue and compete for the SVSU indoor track & field teams.
