#9 Lady Cardinals Impress in Season Opener at Ferris State Invitational

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The #9 nationally ranked Saginaw Valley State University women's cross country team began its 2014 campaign Saturday (9/6) at the Ferris State Invitational in Big Rapids, Mich.

Finishing at the head of the pack was Cardinal senior Emily Short, who took 1st place in a time of 18:47.  Right behind her taking 2nd and 3rd were fellow seniors Chantelle Fondren in a time of 19:15 and Tori Peet in 19:16.  Also placing well at 5th for the Cardinals was sophomore Christina Micale who crossed the finish line at the 19:24 mark.  Freshmen Alicia Tomlin and Allison Dorr finished their first collegiate race in impressive fashion, placing 8th (19:46) and 11th (20:36), respectively.  Also competing for the Cardinals was Darby Meinecke who placed 19th in 20:06.  

Saginaw Valley will be back in action next Friday (9/12) to compete in the Michigan State Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.  The race is set to start at noon.
