Stepanski Paces Cards To Runner-up Finish At GLIAC Championships

HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's cross country team posted a second place finish at the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships, hosted by Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Mich.

The Cardinals had three runners finish inside of the top-20 and all five scoring times in the top-28.  SVSU finished with 84 points, 54 behind the event's winner Grand Valley State.

It was SVSU's best finish since the 1997 season, when it finished runner-up to Hillsdale College in the championship event.

Sophomore Taylor Stepanski led the Cards with a fourth place finish, crossing the line with a time of 22:25.6 in the 6K event.  Her performance landed her on the All-GLIAC First Team.

Junior Emily Short finished in 12th place with a time of 22:44.4, earning her Second Team All-GLIAC honors.

Fellow juniors Jessica Reeves and Chantelle Fondren finished 19th and 21st with times of 23:04.4 and 23:12.8, respectively.

Junior Tori Peet rounded-out the scoring for the Cardinals, finishing 28th overall with a time of 23:35.5.

The Cardinals now prepare for the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Meet November 9th in Kenosha, Wis.
