MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's cross country team competed today (Sept. 3) in their season opener, the Jeff Drenth Memorial, hosted by Central Michigan University.
On the women's side the Cardinals were led by juniors Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) and Jean Hollerbach (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Point HS), Meyer 15th overall timing in at 19:21 and Hollerbach crossing the line 17th with a time of 19:26. Finishing with a time of 20:07 was junior Megan Pittoors (Macomb, Mich./Dakota HS) placing her 24th overall and third on the team. Closing out Saginaw Valley's top-five were Dana Stolicker (Deckerville, Mich./Deckerville HS) and Amber Kassuba (Vanderbilt, Mich./Gaylord HS) timing in at 20:19 and 20:32, respectively.
On the men's side Saginaw Valley was led by sophomore Tyler Noble (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) who crossed the line at 16:02 placing him 14th overall. Noble was followed closely by teammates Jeff Wilson (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon HS) and Chad Scott (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS), Wilson clocking in at 16:11 good for 19th, and Scott crossing the line at 16:13 placing 21st. Finishing 32nd and 33rd for the Cardinals were teammates Greg Baade (Warren, Mich./De La Salle Collegiate) and Frank Griffith (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) who timed in at 16:30 and 16:31, respectively.
The men's and women's cross country teams will be in action again Friday (Sept. 17) when they travel to East Lansing, Michigan to compete in the Spartan Invitational.
