CLARION, Pa. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball finished the Clarion tournament in Pennsylvania with a 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25,11) defeat at the hands of Fayetteville State on Saturday.

The Broncos jumped to a quick 8-3 lead in the second as they knotted things up before moving to a win.

Runs of 5-0 and 4-0 built a 16-6 lead for FSU as they closed out the match to earn the 3-1 win to end the Cardinals tournament.

"We really struggled to get our rhythm offensively today," said head coach Will Stanton. "Fayetteville played some great defense and we did not respond well enough to earn the kills we needed to win."

Thompson and Makaylah Roberts were named to the all-tournament team. The Cardinals finished their first weekend of play with a 2-2 record.

SVSU travels to Findlay for the Oilers' tournament next weekend. The first day of play is Friday, September 8 against Cedarville and a match against Bloomsburg. The first match happens at 9:00 a.m. and the second is at 5:00 p.m.
