The SVSU volleyball team welcomes Lake Superior State and Northwood to the Cardinal Gym this weekend for a pair of GLIAC contests. The Cardinals host the Lakers on Friday (10/24) night at 7:00 pm before hosting the Timberwolves on Saturday (10/25) afternoon at 2:00 pm.
Last weekend, the Lady Cards competed in the seventh annual GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Challenge in Aurora, Illinois. The Cardinals entered the tournament as the number five seed and finished with a 1-2 record. On Friday (10/17), SVSU fell to Wisconsin-Parkside 3-1 and then split on Saturday (10/18). Saginaw Valley lost 3-1 in the morning to Rockhurst before sweeping Missouri S&T 3-0 in the afternoon. The Cardinals were led by Kelsey Ferla and Kelly Vellucci, both of which were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Lakers come into the contest Friday night after losing all three matches in the Crossover Challenge. LSSU has a 2-17 overall record and a 1-10 mark in the GLIAC. The Cardinals defeated the Lakers twice last year by final scores of 3-1 and 3-0.
The Timberwolves were swept in all three matches at the Crossover Challenege this past weekend. Northwood carries a 6-12 overall record and 3-8 mark in the GLIAC into this weekend's matches. SVSU was defeated at home last year by rival Northwood, 3-1.
