BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A pair of Saginaw Valley State University track & field student-athletes finished the weekend on a strong note Saturday (Mar. 14) at the 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships.  The event was held at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Andrew Mudd started strong for the Cardinals, using a great finish with a victory in the 1,000 Meter Run portion of the Heptathlon to finish in 8th place overall with a point total of 5,180.  It is the first All-American honor for the SVSU sophomore.

Taylor Stepanski competed in the 800 Meter Run Finals later in the day, entering the finals after posting the top time in the prelims with a mark of 2:07.64 on Friday.  She crossed the line with a time of 2:09.49, finishing as the national runner-up by just over a second.  The All-American plaudit for the 800 are in addition to her 3rd place showing as part of the Distance Medley Relay team on Friday.  It marks three All-American honors for her career, as she was also part of the SVSU DMR Indoor team that earned the honor in 2013.

Anna Fochesato, a 2014 Indoor All-American in the High Jump, competed in this year's championships as well.  She finished in 11th place in the event, narrowly missing out on making it back-to-back years qualifying as an All-American in the High Jump.

The women's team finished 16th overall in the championships, an impressive showing with 14.00 points in just two events that the Lady Cardinals scored in.

The impressive showing this weekend marks the finish of the indoor season for Saginaw Valley, as the Cards return to the oval on Saturday, March 28th at the outdoor version of the GVSU vs. SVSU Dual in Allendale, Michigan.
