Pair of Former SVSU Runners Compete in Boston Marathon

BOSTON, Mass. - Two former Saginaw Valley State University cross country / women's track & field student-athletes made the trip to compete in the 2014 Boston Marathon on Monday, April 21st.

Both Megan Pittoors and Chelsea Savage ran in the race, which had a very special meaning in 2014 following the tragic events during the 2013 race.

Pittoors ran the 26.2 mile track in a time of 3:29.57 while Savage was right with her at a final mark of 3:29.58  They finished 1,583rd and 1,584th in their division and 9,317th and 9,321st overall in the race, respectively.

Both former student-athletes competed in their final season at SVSU during the 2011-12 academic year.  They were each a member of the first SVSU women's cross country team that competed in the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championships, a team that finished 13th.  Pittoors was also part of the 2012 Distance Medley Relay Team that earned All-American Honors at the Division II Indoor National Championships.

There were nearly 36,000 runners who took part in the race overall, an increased number from the normal 27,000 participants.  There were 5,600 runners who weren't able to finish last year's race and those runners were given a spot in this year's event.
