Grob Sits in 9th After Day One at DII Outdoor Championships

PUEBLO, Colo. - Three members of the Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams started their journey at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships today (May 23).

Men
Senior Tyler Grob (Pinckney, Mich.) was the only athlete on the men's side in action on day one of the championships.    He currently sits in ninth place  in the decathlon after the first five events with 3617 points.  Grob would finish 9th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.03 in his opening event.  He would then place 13th in the long jump with a leap of 6.28 meters and followed that up with a 6th place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.04 meters.  He grabbed 11th place in the high jump with a height of 1.84 meters.  Grob would finish day one with his best performance of the afternoon in the 400 meter with a fourth place finish.  He crossed the line with a time of 49.34.

Women
On the women's side, senior middle distance runner Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich.) placed 17th in the prelims of the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:42.72 as she failed to qaulify for the finals on Saturday.

The only other Cardinal athlete to compete on day one was senior Indoor All-American, Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich.) in the 3000 meter steeplechase.  Hill would not qualify for the finals on Saturday as she was unable to complete the race.

The Cardinal men and women will return to the track for day two of the championships on Friday (May 24).
