MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams traveled a small group of athletes to Central Michigan to compete in the Jack Skoog Open.
The lady Cardinals were led by junior Kelsey Bartoloni (Southgate, Mich./Southgate HS) who earned a second place finish in the 400-meter run crossing the line at 1:03.83. Freshman thrower Samantha Cormier (Frankenmuth, Mich./Frankenmuth HS) had a strong performance finishing fourth overall in the shot put with a toss of 11.46 meters.
The Cardinals were led by sophomore David Ray who placed first overall in the 60-meter hurdles clocking in at 8.26. Junior Ryan Renas (Warren, Mich./Warren Woods Tower HS) earned a third place finish in the 400-meter run crossing the line with a final time of 53.68 while teammate Josh Arnold (Clio, Mich./Clio HS) placed fifth in the 800-meter run coming in at 2:01.01. Derek Welmers (Standish, Mich./Standish-Sterling HS) earned a sixth place finish in the mile finishing with a final time of 4:33.59.
Saginaw Valley will be back in action again Friday (Feb. 25) when they host the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships.
