Saginaw Valley Hosts the Cardinal Open

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's team hosted the Cardinal Open Friday (Jan. 28).

The women's team had showed some good performances this past weekend at the Cardinal Open and were led by junior Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS) who earned fourth and fifth place finishes in the mile and 800-meter runs clocking in at 5:14.50 and 2:24.24, respectively.  Junior teammate Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock HS) placed second overall in the 3,000-meter run crossing the line at 10:38.83.  Lauren Little (Oak Park, Mich./Berkley HS) and Kayleen Driscoll (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock HS) earned second and third place finishes in the triple jump with marks of 10.13meters and 10.09meters.  Freshman Shavonne Roberson (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti HS) placed fifth in the 60-meter dash recording a time of 8.21seconds.

The men's team was led by junior Josh Arnold (Clio, Mich./Clio HS) who placed third overall in the 800-meter run, crossing the line at 1:58.56.  Also earning a third place finish in the long jump was freshman Frank Sanders (Detroit, Mich./Sterling Heights HS) with a distance of 6.54meters.  Sanders would also place second in the high jump with a leap of 1.98meters.  Another top performance came from freshman Jonathan Roosen (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) who tossed the shot put a distance of 15.18meters, placing him fifth overall.  Rounding out the meet for the Cardinals was the 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Tyler Grob, Josh Arnold, Mike Rossman, and Eric Osley who crossed the line at 4:35.74, good for fourth place.

Saginaw Valley will be back in action again Friday (Feb. 4) when they host the SVSU vs. GVSU dual meet.
