Cardinal Tennis Eliminated in Second Round of GLIAC Tournament

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University tennis team was eliminated from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament in the second round against top-seeded Wayne State, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals battled the Warriors in doubles competition, with Elizabeth Stuart and Lydia Liong winning the number two matchup. The point was earned in the number one doubles matchup where Adriana Barrio and Nicoletta Diamantopoulos led 5-4 before the Warriors rallied back to take the matchup and the point with a 7-5 decision.

SEASON WRAP-UP: The Cardinals finish the season with a 6-12 overall record and a 4-4 mark in conference play. Barrio was a first-team All-GLIAC selection for the third season in a row, while N. Diamantopoulos earned All-GLIAC honorable mention during her debut season. Barrio (6-2), A. Diamantopoulos (5-3), and N. Diamantopoulos (6-2) each finished with a winning record in singles play during the GLIAC season. Both Diamantopoulos sisters completed the conference season with winning records in doubles competition (Nicoletta was 5-1, while her sister Anastasia was 4-2). Liong and Stuart finished 4-4 in doubles and singles play during GLIAC competition.
