Tennis Completes the Weekend Sweep with 6-1 Win Over Lakers

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University tennis team completed the weekend sweep after a 6-1 win over Lake Superior State on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals (3-8, 2-1 GLIAC) earned their first doubles point of the GLIAC season with 6-1 decisions at number two and three doubles.

Lydia Liong won both of her matchups in the afternoon. She began with a number two doubles win with partner Elizabeth Stuart, before winning in the same spot in singles competition. Stuart also won her number five singles match to go 2-0 on the afternoon.

Nicoletta Diamantopoulos and her sister Anastasia Diamantopoulos won the number three doubles while winning the number four (Nicoletta) and six (Anastasia) singles matches.

Adriana Barrio was the first to finish singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the number one spot.

UP NEXT: The Cardinal tennis team will travel to Big Rapids on Sunday, March 30 to play Ferris State in the first GLIAC road contest of the season. The opening serve is scheduled for noon.
