SVSU Tabs Andrew Sendek as New Tennis Head Coach

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University Director of Athletic Development, Kevin Schultz, announced the hiring of Andrew Sendek as the new head coach of the Cardinal women's tennis program. Sendek will begin his duties at SVSU effective July 31, 2023.

"Several tennis coaches expressed interest in our program and the head coaching position," said Schultz. "However, following Coach Sendek's interactions with our search committee and then team members, the synergy developed naturally. We look forward to his arrival and the upcoming 2023-24 season."

Sendek joins the Saginaw Valley State athletic staff from NCAA Division II institution Georgia Southwestern State University where he served as the head coach of the tennis program and assistant compliance director. During his time with the Canes, Sendek oversaw all aspects of the tennis program including recruiting, scheduling, and operations. Under his leadership, the 2022-23 tennis team won the Presidents Cup for the highest GPA in the department.

Sendek gained coaching experience with GSW's women's soccer team as an assistant for the 2021-22 season. He worked directly with goalkeepers and helped the team achieve the highest win total in program history.

"I would like to thank Angela Pohl, Kevin Schultz, Brad Barlog, Dr. Thompson, Maggie Willett, and the entire hiring committee for their faith in me to lead the SVSU tennis program," stated Sendek. "I am very excited for this amazing opportunity and the chance to lead the SVSU tennis program. I look forward to helping the student-athletes and the program reach their full potential both on and off the court."

Prior to working at GSW, Sendek worked as a graduate assistant women's soccer coach at NCAA DII institute Lincoln Memorial and an assistant coach at NCAA DIII MacMurray College in 2020. He coached at NJCAA Georgia Military College in 2018-19 and Division I West Virginia in 2017-2018.

As a student-athlete, Sendek played #1 singles at Wilmington College and participated on the West Virginia Mountaineers tennis squad before representing the United States in international competition.
