Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Purdue Northwest

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer program had their final road game of the regular season as they travelled to Purdue Northwest Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals (7-5-4, 5-3-4 GLIAC) shut out the Pride (6-5-5, 3-5-4 GLIAC) 1-0 and got three important conference points for the GLIAC standings.

Saginaw Valley outshot PNW 11-8 and had nine shots on goal to the Pride's three. Madi Bajis generated a lot of offense with six shots and four on goal. She was the only one with more than one shot for SVSU. Grace Miller scored the only goal of the contest in the 60th minute. Peyton Kennedy crossed the ball into the box from the right side as Miller beat the keeper to give SVSU the 1-0 lead.

Both goalkeepers played solid as Lainey Garbarz stopped all three shots she faced for her seventh shutout of the year. As a sophomore, Garbarz had six solo shutouts and one shared and has surpassed that mark with seven solo shutouts in her junior year. Meta Fischer played all 90 minutes for PNW stopping eight of the nine shots she faced.

The three points in the win gives Saginaw Valley 19 for the season and moves them into fourth place with two games remaining. Davenport (7-3-7, 5-2-6 GLIAC) sits above them with 21 points while Ferris State (6-5-4, 5-4-2 GLIAC) are two points behind with 17. With the win over Purdue Northwest, the Pride sit six points behind with 13. SVSU can hop the Panthers for third and fall behind the Bulldogs for fifth.
