UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer program welcomed Davenport to town Sunday afternoon for Senior Day. The Cardinals (5-5-4, 3-3-4 GLIAC) drew 0-0 against the Panthers (6-3-5, 4-2-4 GLIAC) in a tightly contested match. SVSU honored six of their players before the match including Solana Kelly, Grace Miller, Gabby Green, Sara Samolinski, Brianna Cobbs, and Stephanie Strong.
Saginaw Valley led in shots 12-8 and shots on goal 6-2 as both goalkeepers posted clean sheets. For the Cardinals keeper Lainey Garbarz, it was her sixth of the year. Coming off a two-goal performance on Friday, Madi Bajis was one of the two main offensive pieces for SVSU. Bajis and Strong tied with four shots and two shots on goal to lead both teams. Rileigh Garbarz had one of her two shots on target while Jaidyn Veldhouse had her only shot hit the mark.
The best opportunity in the match came in the 52nd minute when Davenport was awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the 18-yard box. Julia Tamasy took the chance and missed her shot high to the right. Strong and Bajis both had high quality scoring chances but couldn't beat the Panther keeper, Elizabeth Wolter.
The Cardinals sit tied for fifth in the GLIAC with the draw putting them at 13 conference points. Purdue Northwest had the same conference record at 3-3-4 and the two will face on Sunday, November 3 in Hammond, Indiana.
