CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer program opened up the weekend road trip at Davenport Friday afternoon. The Cardinals (4-4-2, 2-2-2 GLIAC) drew 1-1 against the Panthers (3-3-4, 1-2-3 GLIAC).
Davenport led in shots 16-9 and shots on goal 7-5 as Cardinal goalkeeper Lainey Garbarz tallied six saves. SVSU opened the scoring in the first as Lauryn Fracassi tallied her third of the year. A bouncing ball made its way to Fracassi in midfield where she sent a strike from about 35 yards out to the top right corner of the goal to make it 1-0.
The Panthers picked up the pace in the second half trying to knot the game at 1-1. They found success in the 70th minute when Gabby Scholten crossed the ball from the right side of the box, which found Claire Breault on the back side. Breault delivered a strike to the top left corner on a bounce to tie the game.
Neither side could find the back of the net again in the final 20 minutes and both teams walked away with a conference point.
