Cardinals Fall to Northern Michigan

MARQUTTE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer program wrapped up the trip to the Upper Peninsula with a match against Northern Michigan University. The Cardinals (4-4-1, 2-2-1 GLIAC) lost 3-1 to the Wildcats (6-2-2, 4-1-1 GLIAC) and were outshot 24-3.

SVSU's Jaidyn Veldhouse scored the lone goal for the Cardinals with her first of her career. Northern Michigan took a one-goal lead in the first half scoring in the 14th minute. Veldhouse received a pass in the box from Lauryn Fracassi who threaded it between multiple defenders. The pass was perfect and gave Veldhouse a clear shooting lane with no one but the goalkeeper to beat and she tied the match up in the 64th minute. The tie didn't last long as 28 seconds later the Wildcats took the lead again. They doubled their lead in the 79th minute.

The Cardinals tallied one shot on goal, coming from Veldhouse, as Fracassi and Stephanie Strong both had a shot each. Lainey Garbarz started in net for SVSU and stopped nine of the 12 shots she faced. NMU's keeper Sally Patton got the win allowing one goal on one shot.
