Women’s Soccer Scores Late to Secure 1-0 Win at Michigan Tech

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team scored late in the second half to earn a 1-0 win over Michigan Tech on Friday afternoon.

Cardinals (4-3-1, 2-1-1 GLIAC) goalkeeper Lainey Garbarz made 13 saves to earn her third-straight shutout, the fifth of the season.

Garbarz made five saves in the first half to preserve the scoreless draw. The Huskie keeper Bri Barrows made four saves in the period when the teams entered the locker room at the break.

Lauryn Fracassi broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute with an unassisted score to capture the game-winning goal. It is Fracassi's second goal this season (both were game-winners).

Stephanie Strong led offensively with two shots on frame for the Cardinals. Lindsey Rzeszutko, Madi Bajis, Emma Bradley, and Brie Clasen all recorded a shot on target in the win.

Lainey Garbarz improves to 4-2-1 for the season with the decision.

UP NEXT: SVSU will remain in the Upper Peninsula for a matchup against Northern Michigan on Sunday, October 6. The Cardinals and Wildcats will begin at noon (ET).
