Women’s Soccer Shuts Down Roosevelt

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer program earned their first GLIAC win and third clean sheet of the season Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 win over Roosevelt. The Cardinals (3-3-0, 1-1-0 GLIAC) outshot the Lakers (0-3-2, 0-2-0) 20-6 and 7-2 in shots on goal.

Makenna Kennedy posted four shots and one on goal while Lauryn Fracassi and Rileigh Garbarz both had three shots, two on goal. Fracassi opened the scoring in the first half with her first goal of the season in the 23rd minute. She received a pass from R. Garbarz and her shot from inside the box deflected off the goalkeeper, off the right post, and into the net for the 1-0 lead. In the 59th minute, a flurry of chances for Saginaw Valley led to Jaidyn Veldhouse drawing a foul inside the box as SVSU was awarded their first penalty kick of the year. Madi Bajis would take the opportunity and bury the shot in the lower right corner to double the advantage.

Lainey Garbarz was the keeper for SVSU stopping the two shots she faced to earn her third shutout and move to 3-2-0 on the year. Bajis recorded her second goal of the season and R. Garbarz leads the Cardinals offensively with her third assist and seventh point of the season.

The only team stat that was even was the fouls as both teams recorded eight on the rainy afternoon. SVSU led in corners 9-3 to add to their shot total leads.
