UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer program got back in the win column Sunday afternoon after a 1-0 victory against Findlay University. The Cardinals (2-2-0) and Lainey Garbarz earned their second clean sheet of the season but were outshot by the Oilers (0-1-2) 13-10.
SVSU led in the first half with shots 7-6 and shots on goal 5-0 before UF led 7-3 in shots in the second half and 4-0 in shots on goal. The difference maker was Stephanie Strong in the 29th minute. Strong sped down the right side of the field and received a pass from Rileigh Garbarz to give her a clear path to the goal. On the break, Strong beat the sliding keeper over the top to net her first of the year as Garbarz tallied assist number two and point number four on the season.
Strong led the Cardinals with four shots, three on goal, and the lone goal. Emma Bradley and Madi Bajis both had two shots while Brianna Cobbs and Brie Clasen added a shot on target as well.
