UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer program wrapped up their regular season Thursday afternoon against Ferris State University. Both teams took advantage of penalty kicks, but the Bulldogs came out on top 2-1.

SVSU led in shots, shots on goal, and corners while FSU led in fouls and offsides. Stephanie Strong took eight shots with three going on goal to lead the team offensively. Sarah Fredrick and Madi Bajis both had three shot attempts with Fredrick putting two on goal and Bajis one. Kennedi Pugh started in goal and stopped five of the seven shots she faced.

The first half started quick for the Bulldogs as they netted the opening goal in the fourth minute on their first shot of the game. After trailing 1-0 early, the Cardinals pushed back and started to control the chances. They led the first half in shots 9-5 and shots on goal 4-3 along with four corners to one. Multiple of Saginaw Valley's grade a chances game from the corner kicks and finding the loose ball in the box, but they couldn't break through in the first 45 minutes to tie the game up.

Nearly six minutes into the second half, a red card against SVSU put them a player down on the field. However, just nine minutes later, Ferris State was called for a hand ball in their defensive box to award a penalty kick for Saginaw Valley. Fredrick took it and netted the tying goal. The hand ball bug bit the Cardinals later on. Off a rush, a shot by Ferris State hit the arm of a Cardinal defender in the box giving the Bulldogs a penalty kick of their own. FSU scored to take a 2-1 lead with 11 minutes left to play. SVSU could not overcome the one goal and one player deficit and 2-1 was the final score.

With the loss, SVSU finishes the regular season in fourth place of the GLIAC. They will host the five seed on Monday, November 6 at 1:00 PM. Depending on the final seeding, Saginaw Valley hosts either Ferris State or Davenport University.
