UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team has not allowed a goal in the last six games. A streak that started with a 0-0 tie and was followed up on with five straight shutout wins has never been done in program history. On Friday, the Cardinals set the record with a 2-0 win over the Parkside Rangers.

The Cardinal offense was buzzing. They had 21 shots in the game, which is second to the 28 they had in their match against Quincy back at the beginning of September. The scoring opened up in the 20th minute as Stephanie Strong netted her fourth of the season. Tiffani Torres headed a ball that was picked up by a Ranger defender. Their pass was intercepted by Strong who beat the last defender and had a one-on-one at the top of the box with the goalkeeper. She put her shot low left and gave the Ranger keeper no chance to save it as SVSU took the 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals had five more shots than the Rangers in both halves leading them 10-5 in the first half and 11-6 in the second for a total of 21-11. Lainey Garbarz started in net stopping the only two Parkside shots that were on net. She left after a collision in the second half and gave way to position player Gabby Green. Green played the final 34 and a half minutes making one save.

SVSU took a 1-0 lead into the second half and quickly doubled it. 35 seconds out of the break, a cross into the box by Sarah Fredrick was chipped by Tiffani Torres and found the foot of Madi Bajis. Bajis put a shot top left off the redirect and doubled the Cardinal advantage.

Strong led the Cardinal offense in shots with five and capitalized on one of her three shots on goal. Three other Cardinals had three shot attempts in Campbell Gibson, Sarah Fredrick, and Lauryn Fracassi.

Women's soccer improves to 8-2-2 and 5-1-2 in GLIAC play. They are back in action Sunday as they host Purdue Northwest at 2:00 PM.
