Women’s Soccer Notches Consecutive 1-0 Wins

KENOSHA, Wis. – Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer started a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road trip with a 1-0 win in Wisconsin against the Parkside Rangers. It marks the third straight clean sheet for the Cardinals and Lainey Garbarz going back to the 1-0 win against Northern Michigan and the 0-0 draw against Michigan Tech.

Saginaw Valley had pressure and aggression on their side in the match. They outshot the Rangers 18-8 with nine shots coming in both halves. They also led in fouls 15-7 with eight in the first 45 minutes.

After a scoreless first half, SVSU opened up the scoring in the 53rd minute. Kaley Douglass tallied her first of the season giving Saginaw Valley the eventual final score of 1-0.

The Cardinals kept their foot on the gas attempting another nine shots in the second half. 10 of the 18 attempts made their way on goal forcing nine saves out of the Parkside keeper. Four corners for SVSU in the second half added to their total of five as they took control of the game.

Garbarz stopped all four shots on goal four her fourth shutout of the season matching the four she had last year. Stephanie Strong helped lead the offense with five shots, four of which were on goal. Campbell Gibson and Lauryn Fracassi both had three shot attempts with one on net.

Saginaw Valley women's soccer improves to 5-2-2 and 2-1-2 in GLIAC play. They continue the road trip as they head to Purdue Northwest on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 12:00 P.M.
