UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer hosted the number one Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in Northern Michigan University Sunday afternoon and came out on top with a final of 1-0. The Wildcats were a team that averaged nearly 20 shots a game and were held to only eight. Saginaw Valley was efficient with their shot attempts putting three of their four shots on target.

Lainey Garbarz was perfect again coming off a shutout on Friday and saving all four shots Sunday for her third shutout of the season. A scoreless first half had the Wildcats leading in shots 3-2 and both teams had two saves. Shortly into the second half, the tie was broken. A free kick from Alex Richardson made its way into the box and was redirected by a header from Solana Kelly. Kelly notched her first goal of the season and a big lead for the Cardinals over the Wildcats.

Northern Michigan started to push late in the half to try to tie the game back up, but the SVSU defense and goaltending held strong. The Wildcats outshot the Cardinals 5-2 in the second half, but the saves were 2-0 in Saginaw Valley's favor. In the 79th minute, there were two yellow cards on Cardinal players, but those were the only cautions of the game.

SVSU women's soccer moves to 4-2-2 on the year and 1-1-2 in the conference. After the two conference games at home this week, they'll continue GLIAC play on the road as they head to Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM.
