UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team had a very close Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match against Michigan Tech University Friday afternoon tying the Huskies 0-0.

The back-and-forth game felt like a quick moving game with good defensive action from both teams. Campbell Gibson and Alex Richardson both had three shots to lead the team with their total of 16. Gibson put two on target as the only Cardinal with multiple shots on goal. SVSU out shot MTU 16 to 13 and edged them out with one more shot on goal leading five to four. Cardinal goaltender Lainey Garbarz stopped all four shots on goal for her second shutout of the season.

In the 75th minute, lightning in the area delayed the game for half an hour. After the weather cleared, the two teams got back on the field, warmed up, and continued. About eight minutes later, more lightning rolled through, and play was stopped for another 90 minutes with under eight minutes left in the contest. A near four-hour game as both teams came back onto the field with energy trying to break the tie.

Saginaw Valley moves to 3-2-2 (0-1-2) on the year and has another GLIAC match this weekend. Northern Michigan heads to town for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff on Sunday afternoon.
