Cardinal Women’s Soccer Ties Grand Valley State on the Road

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team scored in the opening 15 minutes of the first period in a 1-1 tie with Grand Valley State University on Sunday afternoon.

Sarah Fredrick was the goal scorer for the Cardinals (3-2-1, 0-1-1 GLIAC) in the 14th minute of play. Fredrick scored off an assist from Stephanie Strong to give SVSU an early 1-0 lead. Strong led the team with four shots, one on goal, in the contest. Fredrick tallied two shots including her scoring tally while Campbell Gibson also registered a shot. Kennedi Pugh and Lainey Garbarz both served in net for the Cardinals. Pugh saved the only shot she faced during her time in goal. Garbarz saved two of the three shots she faced on the day.

Fredrick's goal gave SVSU the 1-0 at 13:52 of the first half. The score would remain there for the majority of the first half until the Lakers scored the tying goal in the 41st minute. GVSU held a 7-4 edge in shots during the first half. The host also manufactured five corner kicks to SVSU's two in the first 45 minutes.

The second half was even in shots with Grand Valley having four and Saginaw Valley adding three. The Lakers got one shot on goal which was saved in the second half and preserved the 1-1 final score.

The Cardinals will return home to face Michigan Tech on Friday, September 22 at 3:00 p.m.
