Cardinals Fall to Panthers in GLIAC Road Opener

CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell at Davenport 1-0 after a late Panther goal broke the scoreless tie. The Cardinals (3-2, 0-1 GLIAC) begin conference action with an 0-1 record with the result.

Alex Richardson, Stephanie Strong, and Larissa Barnett each recorded a shot on goal for SVSU, but none of those opportunities led to a score. Lainey Garbarz (L, 0-1-0) got the start in goal for Saginaw Valley State. The sophomore keeper made four saves to keep the Cardinals in the game through her 90 minutes of play.

SVSU led 4-3 in shots, with two being on goal through the first 45 minutes of play. Davenport pressed in the second half as they held a 6-2 edge in shots with four being on target including the scoring play at 78:12 that ended up being the final tally.

The Cardinals have another tough challenge on Sunday, September 17 when they travel to face Grand Valley State in another Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road game. That matchup is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
