NMU scores two second-half goals to edge SVSU 2-1

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team lost for the first time this season to Northern Michigan University 2-1 Friday at Midland Community Stadium. The Cardinals record drops to 4-1-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. 

The Cardinals were able to take a 1-0 lead in the first half when Gabby Green and Reegan Kingpavong advanced the ball up the field and found Stephanie Strong for the goal. It was the Howell, Mich. native's sixth goal of the season. 

After the halftime break, the Wildcats responded with two second-half goals. The first coming in the 57th minute, and the final goal seven minutes later. SVSU was unable to find the back of the net the rest of the game and the Wildcats earned the victory.

Olivia Argeros made four saves in goal for the Cardinals. Northern Michigan outshot SVSU 18-12.

SVSU will host the Michigan Tech Huskies at 1 pm Sunday from Braddock Field.
