UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's golf program had two student-athletes named to the All-GLIAC teams, as announced by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference office Thursday morning. Seniors Brook Herbstreit and Megan Thiravong were both selected to the All-GLIAC Second Team for their standout performances during the 2024–25 season.
Herbstreit concluded her senior campaign with a scoring average of 77.3 over 27 rounds. Her top finish came at the Ohio Dominican NC4K Classic in early April, where she shot a 151 (+7) over two rounds — highlighted by a 71 (-1) on day one — to secure second place. She was ranked No. 35 in the region, the highest among all SVSU women's golfers. Herbstreit ended the year with a 630–151–16 record and made her fourth consecutive NCAA Division II Regional appearance, her third as part of a team. The 71 (-1) at the NC4K Classic matched her season-low round, which she also recorded at the DU Panther Invite.
"Brook has been a cornerstone of this team for the past four seasons — a true leader whose dedication set the standard," head coach Mike Masten said. "She's competed in regionals all four of her years at SVSU, consistently representing the Cardinal red with excellence. A model student-athlete and one of the most talented golfers to ever wear our colors — this honor is not only well-earned, it's undeniable."
Thiravong posted nearly identical stats to Herbstreit, finishing with a 77.3 scoring average over 26 rounds. Ranked No. 38 in the region, she compiled a 592–191–14 record. The Rochelle, Illinois, native earned one individual win and two top-three finishes, taking first place at the Battle at Brunswick and second at the DU Panther Invite, where she recorded two even-par rounds. Thiravong's season-low round of 71 (-1) came during the second round of the William Beall Fall Classic. She led the Cardinals at the NCAA Division II East Regional, finishing 20th overall with rounds of 78 (+6), 76 (+4), and 78 (+6).
Masten also praised Thiravong's contributions:
"Megan has been one of the hardest workers to come through our program. Her ability to manage her time and maximize productivity is unmatched. That same work ethic will no doubt make her an invaluable asset in the workforce. Her dedication to her teammates at SVSU set a high standard that will be hard to match. A fierce competitor through and through — her presence will be deeply missed."
