Megan Thiravong and Women’s Golf Take First at the Battle at Brunswick

CALABASH, N.C. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's golf program played two rounds at the Brunswick Plantation Golf Resort in Calabash, North Carolina on Friday and Saturday. Megan Thiravong won as an individual and the team finished first in the Davis & Elkins Battle at Brunswick.

The team of Thiravong, Brook Herbstreit, Andie Martin, Hannah Hauser, and Christina Nagy finished +77 over two rounds to take first out of 10 teams. Thiravong took first with rounds of 82 (+10) and 77 (+5) for a total of 159 (+15). Martin tied for third place with one other with rounds of 79 (+7) and 85 (+13) for a two-round total of 162 (+20).

Herbstreit tied for fifth with fellow Cardinals Megan Kozlowski who golfed individually. Herbstreit had rounds of 85 (+13) and 81 (+9) for a total of 166 (+22) as Kozlowski tallied rounds of 86 (+14) and 80 (+8) for a total of 166 (+22) as well.

Hauser rounded out the team scoring tying for seventh overall with rounds of 82 (+10) and 85 (+13) for a total of 167 (+23). Nagy rounded out the competition with rounds of 82 (+10) and 86 (+14) for a total of 168 (+24) to tie for ninth overall out of 50 golfers. Hauser shot one of the two eagles in the tournament as she eagled hole 11, a par five.

Up Next: Saginaw Valley women's golf heads to the SVSU Spring Invitational next weekend on Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16. The tournament takes place at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Kentucky.
