Women’s Golf Takes Fifth in Sea Trail Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's golf program had their first tournament of the spring season competing in the Ohio Dominican Spring Break Invitational at Sea Trail Golf Resort on Thursday and Friday. The Cardinals took fifth of nine teams shooting 641 over their two rounds.

SVSU was led by Brook Herbstreit who was tied-seventh overall with a 154. She shot the lowest and third lowest rounds for Saginaw Valley with a 75 and 79. Sydney Wesson had a great performance shooting an 80 and 77 for a total of 157. Wesson finished tied for tenth. Megan Kozlowski was third best on the Cardinals team of six as she shot 163 with rounds of 83 and 80. Megan Thiravong started slow with a 90 on day one before shooting 80 on day two to total 170. Andie Martin shot 87 and 84 for a total of 171 and rounding out play for SVSU was Mandy Ehrlich who shot 172 with rounds of 91 and 81.

As a team, the Cardinals had the third most pars totaling 104 and were the fourth best team on par fours where they averaged 4.53. Herbstreit was tied for the best individual score on par threes shooting an even 3.00 on average. Wesson was eighth best on par fours and eleventh best on par fives shooting averages of 4.30 and 5.25.

Women's golf has just over a week off until the SVSU Spring Break Invite which is held at Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown, Kentucky. The Cardinals will hit the golf course on Saturday, March 16 and wrap up play on Sunday.
