COLUMBUS, Ohio – Saginaw Valley State University senior guard Kaitlyn Zarycki was named the 2022-23 Midwest Region Women's Basketball Player of the Year by the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) on Thursday afternoon.
Zarycki adds this award to her Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Year prize that she was awarded last week. She averaged 21.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.5 steals per game over her senior campaign. Zarycki led the GLIAC in free throw percentage (90.8%), steals per game, and finished the season fourth in total points despite missing four games with a hand injury. Highlights from her immaculate regular season included breaking the single-game scoring record totaling 44 points on Senior Day over Davenport University and ending the season with 50 consecutive made free throws.
The Niles, Michigan native was named to the First-Team All-Midwest Region along with her player of the year honor. It is the first time in her career she made the first-team All-Midwest team.
Athletic Communications Directors from NCAA Division II Midwest Region schools and conferences selected the D2CCA all-region team. All members of the first-team all-region will move forward to the All-America voting process.
